Meeting Minutes


February 13, 2008

The meeting was held at the Southside Restaurant on Wednesday February 13, 2008 at 7:00 P.M.  there were 18 members present.

The meeting was called to order at 7:12 P.M.

The Secretary's minutes were read.

Joan discussed the State "Fund Project".  There will be $2,000 available for smaller chapters with 30 members or less.  The application deadline will be on May 5, 2008 and the State Trail Committee will decide who will be awarded the money in July.  As well a separate fund for the Youth Project is being put into place with a $5,000 scholarship fund. 

Joan will be attending the General Membership meeting as a delegate.  The meeting will be in Delaware on March 2, 2008.  They will be discussing and voting on a change in membership dues at the meeting, as well as discussion of a budget for regional representatives.

We will be hosting the "National Cowboy Day" ride at Van Buren State Park on July 26, 2008.  We are interested in hosting the OTP ride in combination with the National Cowboy Day ride.  Joan will find out more information from the Ohio Trail Partnership.

Hancock County Horseman's Flea Market will be held on Sunday February 24, 2008 at the University of Findlay Equestrian Center.  We will have a booth set up at the location.  Volunteers to help with the booth are always welcome!

Wood County will be having their Flea Market on March 9, 2008 at The Wood County Fairgrounds.   As well, there are many county flea markets scheduled, please see the Corral for dates.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday March 12, 2008 at The Southside Family Restaurant at 7:00 P.M.

January 21, 2008

The H.C.O.H.C. meeting was held on January 21, 2008 at the Southside Restaurant in Findlay. 

The meeting was called to order at 7:08 p.m.

There were 19 members present.

The Secretary minutes were read followed by the Treasurers report.

Carol informed us that a Christmas Star was purchased for a local child.

A few members of the H.C.O.H.C. went to the Sandusky County meeting.  It was discussed that we would be interested in the development of  "White Star" in Gibsonburg.  We will be looking to develop trails at that location.   There will be a meeting with the area Ranger to update information and get trails set up and organized. 

Anyone with pictures of their Equine events or activities may send their photos to Joan in order to have them ready for the Equine Affaire.  Deadline for photos is February 15, 2008.

A new development of trails between Malabar and Mohican is being worked on.  There will be approximately 72 miles of trails and camping facilities. 

At the State meeting it was discussed that a "project fund" of up to a $1000 grant. will be put into place for chapters interested.  They will match funds 2 to 1.   There will also be a Youth Fund.    

The Hancock County Horseman's Flea Market will be held at the University of Findlay Equestrian Center on Sunday February 24, 2008.  Please feel free to join us at the Hancock County O.H.C. booth!

Oak Openings is looking for volunteers for Trail Patrol.  Anyone interested should contact Laura at 419-407-9713 or www.metroparkstoledo.com

We will be hosting the "National Cowboy Day" ride on Saturday July 26, 2008 at Van Buren  State Park.  A committee has been put into place for the activities and events of the ride.   We hope to see everyone there!

We have voted to move the monthly meetings to the Second Wednesday of the month.  The next monthly meeting will be held on Wednesday February 13, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at The Southside Family Restaurant in Findlay.

November 19, 2007

The November meeting was held at the South Side Restaurant in Findlay on November 19. There were 14 members present.

 Membership renewals were turned in and everyone was told to bring their trail miles to the next meeting.
 

The members discussed a holiday get together and voted to meet next month at Tony's for a
dinner/meeting on December 17Th at 7:00pm.

Hancock Chapter agreed to purchase a Christmas star for some child for Christmas.

 Members were told that the mounting block is completed and someone just need to move it to where it is needed .

The State is looking for a new editor for the Corral and it was asked if anyone would be interested in the job. .

 Some members asked about in going to the Sandusky Co. OHC's next meeting. Joan will check it to it and find out when and where it will be.

October 15,2007

The October Meeting was held at The Southside Family Restaurant in Findlay at 7:00 P.M.   There were 13 members present. The secretary minutes were read.

 

Jackie passed out membership forms and discussed that we would like to have all dues paid and memberships updated by the end of November.  It is important to have the dues paid up and anyone with insurance to get the forms turned in so as to not have your insurance lapse. 

 

Chad Barnhisel had previously brought up the idea of having a group weekend at Van Buren State Park.  We discussed the idea further and will be looking forward to getting everyone together for a fun weekend of camping as a group!

 

North Baltimore's Halloween Parade will be held on October 27, 2007.  Anyone interested in riding in the parade, please contact Joan Miller.

 

The State Meeting will be held on November 11, 2007 in Delaware.

 

Wood County will be hosting their Flea Market on Sunday November 11th.    O. H. C. will have a booth set up, and anyone wanting to volunteer to help at the booth would be greatly appreciated. 

 

Sunday October 28th - we will be having a "Chili Ride"  at the Sohio Property.  Come join us for the fun!  We will be riding at 10:00 A.M. and lunch will be served at Noon.  Don and Jackie Romaker will be making the chili!!  Other members will be bringing a dish to pass.  Donations appreciated as well.  Hope to see you there!

 

Fulton County will be having their New Years Day ride on January 1st at Harry Hughes.  There will be food served in the afternoon, and  Wood County will be hosting a ride at Harry Hughes on November 4th. 

 

We had our 50/50 drawing for the club and Carol won!  Thank you Carol for donating the money back to the club!!

 

We discussed the new meeting location at The Southside Family Restaurant and everyone agreed that it is a nice location and we look forward to meeting here in the future. 

 

Jackie will be ordering t-shirts and hats for the club.  Anyone interested, please contact her.

 

Frank informed us that Ed Haley and Dan Treece are doing well and showing much improvement at the speed shows!  Congratulations to the both of you!

June 18, 2007

The meeting was held at Van Buren State Park on Monday, June 18th at 6:30 p.m.  There were 14 members present.

We started with a potluck dinner for everyone and had a very nice turnout!

Secretary minutes were read and the treasury report was given.

Clean up day at The Sohio Property went very well.  We had a very productive day and got a lot of work done.  Trails were cleared, trimmed, and paths were marked.  We look forward to seeing everyone at The Sohio Property for a  Day Ride on Saturday June 23rd at 10:00a.m.

We have been in contact with Henry County OHC and we are finalizing plans for the OTP ride to be held on July 21st and 22nd.   We are sharing the cost of putting on the ride with Henry County and are discussing options for the food, refreshments, and fun show activities.  Don and Jackie Romaker have been gracious enough to offer to put on the breakfast for Sunday morning to include Pancakes, Sausage Gravy and Biscuits.  We will also be having a "Barn Sale" that weekend to raise money for the H.C.O.H.C.    Please bring any items you  may have to donate for the sale.   We will have a table set up for the "Barn Sale" on both Saturday and Sunday.

Hancock County Park District is looking for ideas and advice for improvements to the Hancock County Park System.  We are interested in setting up a meeting with them to discuss these ideas and have input as to what can be done to better the parks for trail riding possibilities.

Wood County will be having a meeting on Monday June 25Th at the North Baltimore Library at 7:00 p.m.  They will be discussing suggestions for park usage and trail riding in their county.

Jessica informed us that she will be selling raffle tickets for the 4-H Horse Advisory Horse Raffle.  The Raffle Prize will be a Paint Mare and/or $1,000.  Tickets are $10.

A.Q.H.A. and TSC Tractor Supply Company will be hosting "Out Here With Horses" on June 23rd at area TSC Stores.  They will have special deals and giveaways for the event. 

The next meeting will be held on Monday July 16th.  Location to be announced.

May 21, 2007

The monthly meeting was held on Monday, May 21st at the Fern Cafe in Findlay.  The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. with 11 members present.

We discussed having a clean-up day at the Sohio Property Trails.   We have decided to set the date for Sunday, June 10th at 10:00 a.m.   Please be sure to bring any tools you may have to help clear the trails. 

June is National Trail month and following in July is National Farrier's Month.

We are working on finalizing plans for the OTP ride to be held at Van Buren State Park on July 21st and 22nd.  We are co-sponsoring  the ride with Henry County OHC. 

We are planning to have a Day Ride at the Sohio Property on Saturday, June 23rd at 10:00 a.m.   We look forward to seeing you there and having an enjoyable day!

The next meeting will be held on Monday, June 18th.  Please note that we will be having the meeting at Van Buren State Park at 6:30 p.m. at the covered picnic area.  We will be having a pot luck for the meeting.  Please bring a dish to pass.

April 16, 2007

Hancock County O.H.C. met on Monday April 16, 2007 at the Fern Cafe' in Findlay.  Seven members were present.  The meeting was called to order at 7:20 p.m.

The Treasury and secretary's report were given.

Ed Leeper informed us that Chad and Stacy Barnhisel are interested in donating cement steps to be used as the mounting blocks at Litzenburger Park. 

Erie County will be hosting a ride on April 17,  2007 at Edison Woods for their annual poker run and ride-out.  They will also be hosting a ride at Malabar Farm on April 22,  2007. 

Jackie and Joan graciously donated their time again for the O.H.C. at this year's Equine Affair.  Many applications and information on the O.H.C.  were handed out and there are 3 new counties looking to start chapters. 

There will be a benefit and fund raising dinner to raise money for the Therapeutic Riding Center.  It will be held at the School of Opportunity in Tiffin, Ohio on April 21 at 6:00 p.m.  There will be a silent auction, a 50/50 raffle and door prizes.  For more information please contact Brenda Mowery at 419-447-5020

Wood County will host a ride on May 19th at Beaver Creek for the N.E. Regional ride.  As well as a state ride at Caesar Creek on June 9th and 10th including a poker run and pot luck

Work will be done on the trails at Garlo Park on the following dates:
April 21st, 8am - 12; May 19th, 8am - 12; and June 16th, 8am - 12

The next meeting will be on Monday May 21, 2007.

March 19, 2007

The H.C.O.H.C. monthly meeting was held on March 19, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at the Fern Cafe.  The meeting was called to order at 7:36 p.m.  Fifteen members were present.

The Treasury report was read followed by the secretary's report.

The building and installing of mounting blocks for Litzenburger Park was discussed and Dan Treece informed that he has the materials needed and will be starting work on the project.

The possibility of putting together a "Fun Show" as a fund raising event was brought up.  We will be looking into costs, locations, and different ideas for the event.

Joan informed that Erie County will be unable to host The O.T.P. Ride this year.   We have decided to host the event along with Henry County.  We are looking at having the ride on July 21 & 22,  2007 at Van Buren State Park.   We will be contacting the Henry County Chapter to finalize the plans.  Food and refreshments for Saturday were discussed and the possibility of a Fun Show on Sunday.

We will be looking at having a trail clean-up day at The Sohio Oil Property near North Baltimore.  We will need to put some effort into clean-up of this location for future trail rides which may include the Regional Ride.

Jackie reminded us to keep our trail mileage so that it can be turned into the state at the end of the year.  Hancock County members total mileage for 2006 was 6,825 miles.  Congratulations to everyone on your number of miles!

The All American Youth Horseshow will be held in Columbus, Ohio on May 17, 18, 19, and 20, 2007.  Anyone interested in volunteering, please contact Joan or Jackie.

Wood County will be holding their annual Swap Meet at the Wood county Fairgrounds on Sunday March 25,  2007 at 10:00 A.M.   Jackie and Joan will have our H.C.O.H.C. booth set up at the event.  Please stop in and visit the booth!

A special thanks to Joan and Jackie for a great job at the Hancock County Swap Meet!  They passed out information and literature for our Chapter and have people from other areas interested in becoming members, as well as getting people interested in starting a new chapter in another county.  Thank you both for your hard work.

The next meeting will be held on Monday, April 16, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at the Fern Cafe.

February 19, 2007

The Hancock County Horseman's Association came to order at 7:00 p.m. at the Fern Cafe', Findlay, Ohio.  Fifteen members were present and the meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m.

Joan spoke of the Children's Miracle Network Trail Ride.  It will be held on Saturday April 28,  2007 at Salt Fork State Park in Cambridge, Ohio.  Prizes will be given based on Donations raised for the event.  Prizes include saddles, jackets and trophies.  All proceeds go to the Children's Miracle Network.  Jessica McGrain would like to participate in the ride.  For more information on the event contact: Dan Laughlin at (740) 376-9030 or (304) 273-3641.

The Mike Moore Memorial Horse Show will be held on Sunday March 25,  2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the High Pointe Farm Longhorn Arena in Troy, Ohio.  Proceeds to benefit the Mike Moore Memorial and another charity to be announced.  For more information contact:  Meryl at (937) 667-8847 or visit www.miamicountyohc.org

Jackie informed us that the O.H.C. will have a booth at the Swap Meet on Sunday February 25,  2007.  The Swap Meet will be held at the University Of Findlay Western Farm.

It was discussed that a Horse Show for each Chapter of the O.H.C. could be in the future.  Each chapter could have a show to promote their chapter and would be a benefit for the youth and other members to participate in.  The hope is to have a show for each chapter, regional and state level. 

The O.T.P. Ride will be held at Edison Woods this year.  It will be hosted by the Erie County Chapter.  The Gibby Ride will be held on August 3, 2007 Joan and Jackie will be participating and cooking for the function. 

The State Meeting will be held on March 4, 2007 in Delaware, Ohio. 

The O.H.C. will have a booth at the Equine Affair on April 12 - 15,  2007.  Our booth will be located in the Northwest corner of The Voinovich Center.  Jackie is looking for photos of your Equine activity to display as well as needing old Christmas trees or any greenery for setting up the display for our booth at the event.  Members are also needed to volunteer at the booth.  For more information and how to sign up to volunteer, visit the state website at www.ohiohorsemanscouncil.com or call Linda Weese at (440) 234-9668 or email: Lsweese@aol.com

"Voices For Horses"  Equine Rescue of Swanton, Ohio is in need of donations.  Anything you may be able to donate would be of great help to them.  Feed, blankets, buckets, cash donations, etc.  You can find information on them at www.petfinder.com

National Cowboy Day will be held in June.  We are looking to set up a ride for everyone to be involved in.  Location and date will be provided  in the future. 

Frank spoke with Shady Pines Farm about having our Indoor Ride and Obstacle Competition at their location.  Liability and insurance issues are being discussed.   We hope to have final plans on the event soon. 

Jackie informed us of the need for a storage trailer for our supplies and equipment.  We are in need of a cargo trailer at least twelve feet in length.  We are looking for a donation or sponsor of the trailer.  The trailer would advertise the name and information of the person or company donating / sponsoring the trailer and would be hauled to all equine events and H.C.O.H.C. functions. 

Jackie motioned to donate $25 to the Ohio Horseman's Council Northwest Ohio Chapter Banner.  Rose seconded the motion.  The Motion was passed.  Other chapters donating to the Banner are Erie and Wood Counties.

January 15, 2007

7:00 p.m. - The Fern Cafe

Sixteen members met January 15th at The Fern Cafe'  in Findlay OH. They were told about the new OHC and OHC PLUS memberships and the new Equine Liability insurance.  Those interested received  the forms to fill out.  There will be forms in the next State Newsletter for those who did not receive one.  Please sent them to Jackie Romaker as soon as possible.  They were also shown the new state membership forms that are to be used in the future.

The Equine Affaire is coming up April 12-15.  The OHC booth will be in a new location at the Voinovich building this year.  The members were told to have the chapter book ready for the event and asked for donations for the booth.  Some of the members have shown interest in going.

The Do Not Slaughter Bill was discussed at length and members were able to give their opinions to the issue.  There was allot of debating as everyone was allowed to speak without judgment.  The N.A.I.S. was also brought up as some members received forms in the mail to fill out.  They were told that it is not mandatory yet, that it paper they received was just if they wanted to do it.

The Wood County Horsemen's Flea market is coming up in March and members were told that Jackie and Joan will be setting up a table for the N.W. Region of the OHC.  Any information should be given to them on the chapter if they want to be included.  All chapters will be invited to participate.

Frank gave an up-date on the process of the event committee.  The High waters in the Findlay area have set them back a bit, but they are still looking at possible places with adequate parking.  Shady Pines was suggested.

The need of a North West region mentor was brought up.  We need to find one before the March state meeting.  One member has shown an interest.

The meeting was adjourned and the next meeting will be Feb. 19 at 7:00 at the Fern.


December 18, 2006

7:00 p.m. - The Fern

The monthly meeting of the Hancock County OHC was held on December 18, 2006 at the Fern in Findlay.  Twenty members were present.  The meeting was called to order at 7:20 p.m.

Rose and Max Hosafros presented a movie for the members to view titled “Self Defense On The Trail”.  It was an informative presentation on the safety of you and your horse while on the trail and camping.  It detailed important precautions and possible risks that one might face while on the trail or at the campsite.  The movie demonstrated how to protect yourself and your horse, how to prevent an incident from occurring and what to do should you be put in a dangerous situation.  It was discussed to have copies made of the video to share with other chapters of the O.H.C.  Thank you Rose and Max for sharing this informative video with us.

Mileage slips were passed out to the members to be updated so that our yearly totals can be turned in to the State.

Jackie updated us on the information about the Liability Insurance.  There will be two options for the members to choose from:  “OHC Plus” which would include the regular member dues plus the fee for the insurance coverage, or  “OHC Basic” which would include only the member dues and would not include any insurance coverage or fees.  Forms and information on the insurance will be provided at the January meeting.

Jane presented the updated treasury report.

It was announced that Linda Benjamin would no longer be a member of the H.C.O.H.C.

She was a large part of the organization and her help and membership will be missed.  We thank her for her past help and support.

Ed Leeper informed the members of a new Livestock Auction being held in Larue, Ohio every third Saturday of the month.  It is located just outside of Larue on State Route 37.  The auction sells livestock, horses and tack.

The winter ride and obstacle competition was discussed.  We are looking into possible locations for the event to be held.  Members discussed having the event open to the public or for O.H.C. members only, and whether the event will be for donations or if an entry fee per contestant will be charged.   A committee was put in place to organize the event including:  Frank VanDenEynde, Ed Leeper, Joe Kirk, and Evert Obenour.   We will discuss the event more at the January meeting and hope to have the event take place in February.

Members discussed the need for involvement with park districts, county parks, and park officials in order to have more locations to ride.  The need for multi-use trails and trails open to equine activities is needed desperately.  Our involvement at the meetings of the park districts and county parks, as well as contacting the appropriate people could be very beneficial to us.

A previous commitment was made to build mounting platforms for Litzenburg Park and Van Buren.  We will be following up on the construction and placement of the mounting platforms.

Future plans for a group ride and overnight camping trip were discussed as well as the possibility of setting a goal to ride numerous Ohio State Parks as a group.

There will be a “Race on Down” Parade in Pemberville in August.  We will have more information on the parade and our involvement in the event at a later date.

There will be a New Years Day ride to take place at Oak Openings / Harry Hughes in Fulton County.

The next meeting will be held on January 15, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at The Fern in Findlay.

November 20,2006

On November  20th, the members of the Hancock County OHC held there monthly meeting at Olers North  in Findlay. There were 20 member present. The minutes of the last meeting were read.

Four members represented the Hancock county chapter at the state meeting in Delaware, which were  Don Romaker, Joan Miller, Jessica McGrain and Mike Miller. The club sold raffle tickets for donated items to ad to the clubs treasure.

Everett Obenour was rewarded for being an outstanding member of the Hancock County OHC chapter and also the state merit award for outstanding member of the year. Presentation of the of the award was given at the meeting.

Jackie explained the proposed liability insurance  to the members and everyone to asked e-mail their thoughts on it to her as it will be voted on at the March general membership meeting.

Membership forms, decals, and bumper stickers were passes out, as well as trail mileage forms.  It is requested that everyone's trail miles be turned in at the next meeting.  There was a 50/50 raffle held, Ed Hailey won and donated the money back to the club.

The elections of officers for the  '07 term were held and stands as follows: President - Joan Miller; Vice President - Rose Hosafros; Treasurer - Jane McGrain; Secretary - Schenley Kirk; and Jackie Romaker is the membership chair.  Frank VanDenEynde will be at Old Man's Cave on Friday the 24th and invites anyone interested to come and ride with him.

Future plans include a indoor competition obstacle ride this winter sometime date to be set, and the Extreme Buckaroo Blast for this summer.  

The next meeting will be held December 18th 7:00pm at Olers North in Findlay.
